The China National Music Museum is located in Wuxi Canal Park. It has a construction area of nearly 4,000 square meters and integrates functions such as exhibition, collection, research, and performing arts. The exhibition is divided into five major sections. The first section, ‘Ancient Melodies’, presents important musical phenomena in different periods of ancient Chinese music in chronological order by displaying important musical relics.
The second section, ‘Beautiful Rhythm of Taihu Lake’, presents modern and contemporary mainly Wuxi local folk music, including Jiangnan sizhu, Wuxi folk songs, Taoist music, Wuxi rap, etc. The third section, ‘Famous Musicians of Folk Music’, is about Wuxi-born musicians, including nearly 30 modern musicians renowned at home and abroad such as Ah Bing, Liu Tianhua, Yang Yinliu, Wang Xin, and Qian Renkang. The fourth section, ‘Thousand Years of National Customs’, is an exhibition of Chinese music and opera-related content in ‘intangible cultural heritage’, covering Kunqu opera, guqin art, Muqam art, Dong ethnic group’s grand songs, Xi’an drum music, etc. The fifth section is an exhibition of Chinese national musical instruments. At present, the museum has a total of 574 exhibits and 969 pieces, including 174 kinds and 468 musical instruments. There are also abundant books, manuscripts, audio-visual materials, pictures, scenes, etc. The content is rich and diverse, basically reflecting the development history of Chinese folk music. It is currently the only comprehensive national music museum in China. Opening hours: closed all day on Monday throughout the year; open from 09:00 to 11:30 and from 13:00 to 16:00 from Tuesday to Sunday throughout the year.
