Xitang has been historically renowned as a town of wine, with its wine culture being as famous as the ancient town itself. “Savoring fine wine and composing beautiful poetry” has always been the pursuit of many ancient scholars and literati. Liu Yazi, who was intoxicated on numerous occasions in the town, has added a splendid historical hue to Xiitang’s wine culture. The China Wine Culture Museum in Xiitang, originally a yellow wine exhibition hall, was later appreciated by Mr. Liu Ximing, a wine-making family patriarch, who displayed his family’s multi-generational collection of wine culture artifacts here. This greatly enriched the exploration of the origins of wine culture, revealing the developmental context and profound connotations of Chinese wine culture. Starting from the Ming Dynasty, Xiitang began brewing wine, initially called “Sanbai wine”: first, because of the white rice used; second, because the wine was uncolored; and third, because the wine jars were painted white. Among the many breweries, the Lu family’s “Plum Blossom Sanbai” was more famous. Today, the China Wine Culture Museum still exudes the fragrance of wine, accompanying the antique wine vessels displayed in glass cabinets, showcasing the profoundness of wine culture to the world. Open all year round from 08:00 to 17:00.
