Chishan Lake National Wetland Park

Chishan Lake National Wetland Park is situated at the crossroads of Leiguan Town in Lai’an County, Chuzhou City, Anhui Province, and Chengqiao Street in Luhe District, Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province. Spanning an expansive area of 5800 acres, the park is divided between Jiangsu Province, with 3600 acres, and Anhui Province, with 2200 acres. It enjoys a prime geographical location, complemented by convenient transportation. The park is a mere 50 kilometers from downtown Nanjing, 70 kilometers from Chuzhou city center, and 190 kilometers from downtown Hefei.

The park derives its name from the over 50,000 chishan trees that thrive in more than a thousand acres of water. These forests, established in the early 1980s, have evolved into a distinctive natural landscape characterized by “forest in water, birds in forest,” earning the moniker “forest on water.” After nearly four decades of natural growth and ecological succession, this unique ecosystem has flourished.

Ecological Diversity:
The wetland park is a biodiversity hotspot, hosting a variety of flora and fauna. It supports 60 families, 154 genera, and 194 species of vascular plants. The aquatic life is equally diverse, with 43 species of fish across 8 orders and 15 families. The park is also home to 18 species of amphibians and reptiles, belonging to 4 orders and 8 families, as well as 13 species of mammals across 5 orders and 5 families. The avian population is particularly rich, with 102 species of birds across 13 orders and 32 families, including 13 species that are nationally protected as second-class animals.
