Chuxiu Garden is located in the center of the urban area, covering an area of 48 hectares. Because it belonged to the State of Chu in ancient times and is a place with beautiful scenery in Huai’an, it is named as such. Chuxiu Garden was originally a marshland and lake area outside the old Qingjiang City. In the Qing Dynasty, naval forces were trained here. When Emperor Wuzong of the Ming Dynasty made an inspection tour to the south, he once fished for pleasure in a small boat here and accidentally fell into the water. After returning to Beijing, he fell ill and died the next year. Hence, the well-known allusion of ‘Yuelong Pool’ was left. In 1958, it was built into a park. The water surface in the park is wide and changeable, the terrain undulates continuously, and the scenery is beautiful and elegant. There are four major scenic areas and ten scenic spots. There are also special parks such as a zoo, a Chinese rose garden and a children’s playground, forming a pattern of gardens within gardens and scenes within scenes. Compatriots from Huai’an living in Taiwan have donated money to rebuild the Imperial Poetry Pavilion (commonly known as the Dragon Pavilion) in the northwest corner of the park. The pavilion has a hexagonal double-eaved roof covered with green glazed tiles and contains stone tablets, becoming a new landscape in the park. Opening hours: Open from 5:00 to 17:00 all year round.
