Da Ci Chan Temple is nestled in the town of Xikou, Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, on the eastern coast of the motherland. It sits at the southeastern foot of Xuedou Mountain, adjacent to the former residence of the Chiang family. The temple, with its back against the mountain, is a creation of nature, resembling the Buddha Maitreya with a large belly, vividly portrayed. It faces north to south, nestled against the mountain and the town, offering a serene and elegant environment with the fragrance of birds and flowers, purifying the heart and soul, and embodying a natural Zen environment. It is truly a naturally formed lotus supporting a precious temple, and a divinely crafted ark for the Buddhist heart.
The entire temple is built along the mountain, covering an area of about 40,000 square meters. The ‘Great Compassion Hall’ serves as the central axis, with the temple arranged in three vertical rows. From the foot of the mountain to the peak, the main buildings include:
1. The screen wall

These structures are clearly distinguished between primary and secondary. Adjacent to these are the living area and office spaces, symmetrically arranged on both sides. The entire architecture, made of wood, consists of a grand and spectacular group of Tang-style buildings. The main design reflects the architectural style and momentum of the Tang Dynasty, while also incorporating the design techniques of Jiangnan gardens. This showcases the woodcraft of the Tang Dynasty to the fullest and harmoniously integrates people with natural scenery.
The temple operates all year round, with opening hours from 08:00 to 18:00. However, specific business hours are subject to the daily opening status.
