Inside Dafeng, there lies a piece of Shanghai’s ‘flying land,’ known as the Shanghai farms in Dafeng, which occupy one-tenth of the local area. Between 1968 and 1978, more than 84,000 Shanghai Zhiqing (youth educated in the countryside) came to the three Shanghai-owned farms in northern Jiangsu’s Dafeng, participating in farm construction on the Yellow Beach and dedicating their youth. These Shanghai Zhiqing shared unforgettable years with the locals and deeply miss and care for their second hometown.

Over the years, many Zhiqing have made special trips to Dafeng to ‘visit relatives.’ In recent years, numerous Zhiqing have returned to invest, becoming the main driving force behind the ‘Shanghai-Dafeng sentiment.’ In 2007, the Dafeng Municipal Government and Shanghai HaiFeng Farm jointly constructed the Dafeng Shanghai Zhiqing Memorial Hall. The first phase of the project, located at the former site of the HaiFeng Farm office, covers 88 acres and houses over 20,000 artifacts from the lives and production of the Zhiqing.

The hall features 16 attractions, including the main museum, Zhiqing club, Yuanhua bathhouse, tiger stove, protective river, Xirang Yuanhua, Daoxiang village, fishing family corner, Peach Blossom Spring, Zhiqing labor experience area, old tree, old well, west pond, mess hall, wild vegetable garden, and staff club. The Dafeng Shanghai Zhiqing Memorial Hall is a significant Zhiqing film and cultural base in East China and across the country.

As a designated tourist attraction for the Shanghai World Expo and a key tourism project in the coastal development of Jiangsu, the Zhiqing Memorial Hall will be more distinctive and charming. Opening hours: 08:30-17:00 all year round.
