Dayishan Scenic Area is a national 4A-level scenic spot. Dayishan is known as the ‘first sacred mountain’ on the North Jiangsu Plain. Dayishan belongs to the branch of Mount Tai. It was born in the Archean era and has a history of 2 billion years. It is named after Yi Yin, the prime minister of the Shang Dynasty, who lived in seclusion here. Dayishan is located more than 30 kilometers south of Lianyungang urban area. It is composed of 12 peaks. The main peak, Yizu Peak, is 226.7 meters above sea level. The mountain body of Dayishan belongs to the outcropping Archean and Mesoproterozoic strata and is very ancient. There are many strange stones and caves on the mountain, as well as stone coffin groups and rock paintings with a long history. The main people who go mountain climbing are locals, and there are also outdoor teams who go on ‘adventures’ to the millennium-old historic sites. Dayishan mainly has two gates, the south gate and the east gate. Since the south gate is close to Guanyun Express Bus Station, it is the main place for tourists coming by car to climb the mountain. The Shifo Temple outside the south gate is free. The temple was built in the Yuan Dynasty. However, what we see now is a modern reconstruction. The eye-catching thing in the temple is the open-air golden seated Buddha behind the Mahavira Hall. Climbing up along the steps to the foot of the seated Buddha and looking up, the base of the Buddha is 33 meters high and the Buddha statue is 33 meters high, with magnificent momentum. There is a mountain path to Dayishan behind the Shifo Temple. Although Dayishan is not high in altitude, there are many peaks. Continuously climbing up and down the small peaks will also make people feel tired. During the climbing process, pay attention to strange stones such as the Beauty Stone, Crocodile Stone, Eagle Beak Stone, Frog Stone, and Sphinx Stone. There is a site of the ancient Shifo Temple on the mountain. However, the new buildings on the site are not as resplendent as the Shifo Temple at the foot of the mountain. After climbing to the top of the mountain, with a cool breeze blowing, you can overlook the entire Guanyun County. There are many unfathomable caves on Dayishan Mountain. Fully armed outdoor teams can explore the caves. Ordinary tourists who also want to experience it can go to the Pansi Cave with a higher degree of safety. It is between the site of the ancient Shifo Temple and the top of the mountain. Remember to bring a flashlight when exploring the cave. After entering the Pansi Cave, after walking for a while, you will encounter a T-junction. No matter which direction you go, after exiting the cave, it is a dead end. After seeing the scenery, you can exit the Pansi Cave from the previous entrance. The stone coffin tomb site on Dayishan Mountain is a burial site from the Neolithic Age. There are square stone coffin relics one by one on the open flat ground. Walking north along Yishan Road from the east gate of Dayishan Mountain, you can reach the stone coffin tomb site. If you don’t know the way, just ask the locals. However, nowadays the gate of the site is closed. If you insist on seeing it, also ask the locals more. They may have a way to take you to see it. The Beauty Rock Paintings, Elk Rock Paintings, and star phase stones reflecting the ancients’ understanding of astronomy on Dayishan Mountain are scattered everywhere in the scenic area.
