‘Dialogue with Turner: The Echo of the Sublime’ is the largest exhibition of its kind organized by the Tate Gallery in the UK. It grandly opens at the Pudong Art Museum as the first stop in Asia. More than 100 groups of works are gathered, of which about 80 are original oil paintings and watercolors by Turner. Some works are directly transported from London to Shanghai especially, presenting exclusively to Chinese audiences. The exhibition will be divided into eight units according to Turner’s creative themes, covering the exhibition halls on the first and third floors and running through his entire creative career. It comprehensively shows the artistic development and changes in creative styles of Turner in various important periods. A large number of Turner’s works debuting in China will give the audience an opportunity to closely feel the extraordinary artistic charm of this ‘genius painter’. The museum will also specially create an immersive space and specially present the Turner documentary customized by the Tate Gallery for the Pudong Art Museum, leading the audience to embark on the journey depicted by Turner. At the same time, the exhibition cleverly intersperses the works of more than ten well-known contemporary artists, including Katie Paterson, Richard Long, Olafur Eliasson, Roni Horn, Peter Doig, and Wolfgang Tillmans, etc., which complement Turner and provide a 21st-century interpretation for the concept of’sublime’ that was born in the 18th century, creating Asia’s first dialogue exhibition between Turner and later artists influenced by him. Opening hours: from October 1st to May 10th. The specific business status is subject to the opening situation on that day.
