Dialogue with Turner: The Sublime Echo is the largest global exhibition of its kind organized by the Tate Britain, making its grand debut in Asia at the Pudong Art Museum. The exhibition brings together over a hundred sets of works, approximately 80 of which are original oil paintings and watercolors by Turner, with some pieces specially transported from London to Shanghai for exclusive display to Chinese audiences.
The exhibition is divided into eight units according to Turner’s creative themes, spanning the first and third floor exhibition halls, covering his entire creative career. It comprehensively showcases the artistic development and stylistic changes of Turner in various important periods, allowing audiences in China the opportunity to experience up close the extraordinary artistic charm of this ‘genius painter’ through a large number of Turner’s works making their debut in China. The museum will also specially create an immersive space to present a Turner documentary custom-made by the Tate for the Pudong Art Museum, leading audiences on a journey through Turner’s works. At the same time, the exhibition cleverly interweaves works by more than ten renowned contemporary artists, including Katie Paterson, Richard Long, Olafur Eliasson, Roni Horn, Peter Doig, and Wolfgang Tillmans, echoing with Turner and providing a 21st-century interpretation of the concept of ‘sublime’ born in the 18th century, creating the first dialogue exhibition in Asia between Turner and the artists he influenced. Open from October 1st to May 10th, with specific business status subject to the day’s opening conditions.Dialogue with Turner: The Sublime Echo – Tate Britain’s Major Exhibition Debuts in Asia
