Located in Slender West Lake, there is a fishing platform known as Diao Yu Tai, which is said to have been a place for playing silk and bamboo instruments. However, its name was derived from Emperor Qianlong’s impromptu fishing and resting here, turning it into a place of leisure and fishing.

Yet, the charm of Diao Yu Tai extends far beyond this. The fishing platform at Slender West Lake is considered a paragon of Chinese pavilion architecture, reflecting the art of framed scenery. Surrounded by water on three sides and connected to Xiaojin Hill by a single long causeway, standing at a 60-degree angle inside the pavilion, one can view the Five Pavilion Bridge lying across the water through the circular door on the north side, the majestic and elegant White Pagoda through the door on the south side, and the beautiful scenery of Fu Zhuang to the east. Diao Yu Tai ‘frames’ the essence of Slender West Lake, perfectly corresponding to its name ‘Three Stars Arching’, and is constructed with great ingenuity.

It is open all year round, accessible 24/7.
