Die Yuan Citizen Square, covering an area of 105,000 square meters, was designed by Tongji University. The square’s design is characterized by the fusion of ancient and modern, combining the long-standing historical culture, famous landmarks, and modern plaza and garden concepts of Gao You. It was constructed on the site of the former Die Yuan, retaining the name ‘Die Yuan’, which is very elegant and fitting.
On the southeast sides of the square, the moat flows gently, the Song Dynasty city wall stands majestically, and the Kuixing Pavilion towers high above, with ancient trees and famous woods providing a lush greenery. Against the backdrop, the Jingtu Temple Pagoda reaches for the sky. Being in this environment evokes a strong sense of historical vicissitudes and depth, with a spatial sense of three-dimensionality and layering, marveling at the designer’s ingenuity and occasional strokes of genius.

The square’s design adheres to the principles of ‘people-oriented, water as the source, and green as beauty’, focusing on the regional characteristics of Gao You’s water town. The overall layout adopts a ‘one axis, two sides, three points’ approach, with the ‘main landscape axis, Die Pool small side, Die Yuan main square, entrance commercial leisure square, water亲近广场, Song Dynasty city wall Kuixing Pavilion historical site’ as the main body. The water platform and the guiding bridge blend into one, allowing people to feel the unique nourishment of the water town’s water nature.

The green space design of the square fully embodies the artistic conception of ‘flowers attract butterflies’, with nearly 40 varieties of flowers, trees, and grasses planted, including Zelkova, Cinnamomum, Osmanthus, plum blossoms, and paradise grass, arranged in a well-ordered manner. Stopping to look, the square is lush with green grass, colorful butterflies dancing, and colorful fountains in various forms; walking slowly and listening, the sound of flowing water, dance music, and birds singing in the greenery, which makes people feel relaxed and happy. The opening hours and specific business status are subject to the actual opening conditions of the day.
