Diyishan, originally known as Nanshan, was named after the famous Northern Song Dynasty poet and calligrapher Mi Fu, who wrote the poem ‘Diyishan Huaigu’ and inscribed the ‘Diyishan’ stele. The mountain is uniquely positioned, with Cuiping Peak on its left, Fengpo Ridge on its right, Qingfeng Mountain at its back, and the Changhuai River in front, offering a picturesque view.

The mountain is lush with ancient trees and numerous historical sites, making it a beautiful scenic spot. Since the Song Dynasty, scholars and poets have gathered here to compose poems and inscribe stones, making it a treasure trove of cultural heritage. Wu Cheng’en’s ‘Journey to the West’ vividly depicts the mountain, mentioning ancient scenic spots such as ‘Diyishan Huaigu’, ‘Boli Pavilion Immersed in Moonlight’, ‘Apricot Garden Spring Day’, ‘Huijinge Relics’, ‘Ruiyan Observation at Dawn’, and ‘Baxian Tai Calling to Seclusion’.

Today, visitors can find structures such as Sheshan Hall, Cuiping Hall, Chunzhou Hall, Bolishui Pavilion, Mingle Hall, and a protected corridor for cliff inscriptions. The saying ‘After seeing the flatlands of the Jianghuai region, look at the first mountain in the southeast’ encapsulates the experience of visiting and appreciating the mountain, reflecting on the past and present, and enjoying the expansive views.
