Donghua University, established in 1951, was originally known as the East China Textile Institute. It was renamed China Textile University in 1985 and Donghua University in 1999. It is one of the first universities in China to be authorized to confer doctoral, master’s, and bachelor’s degrees and is a member of the 211 Project higher education institutions. The university currently has two main campuses, located in Changning District and Songjiang University Town, covering an area of nearly 2000 acres.


The campus environment is beautiful and pleasant, and it is designated as a Shanghai garden unit. In addition to the Changning Campus at 1882 Yan’an West Road, there is also the Songjiang Campus located at 2999 Renmin North Road, Songjiang New Town. The Songjiang Campus covers 1500 acres and boasts the only national ecological water conservancy scenic spot in the Songjiang University District – Jingyue Lake.
