Dongmen Relics, also known as the Double-Weng City Ruins, is situated in the eastern part of the Dongguan Street Historical District. Originally constructed during the mid-Tang Dynasty, the site has been renovated by subsequent dynasties to reinforce the city gates and walls. The gates and walls you see today are modern reconstructions, modeled after the Song Dynasty’s architectural style. Ascending the city tower offers a panoramic view of Dongguan Street.
Passing through the archway beneath the Dongmen Relics, one can see the Tang and Song Dynasty city wall ruins through the glass floor. Inside the city tower, an exhibition hall displays the cultural history of Yangzhou and Dongguan Street. Therefore, starting your tour of Dongguan Street’s attractions and understanding its essence from the Dongmen Relics is a good choice. After viewing the exhibition, ascending the tower to the east reveals the Dongguan Ancient Ferry Archway, while to the west, you can see Dongguan Street and its ancient buildings with grey bricks and tiles stretching into the distance.
