Dongping National Forest Park is located in the central part of Chongming Island, boasting lush trees and fresh air, far from the hustle and bustle of the city. The park is quite large, and many visitors choose to rent bicycles at the entrance for transportation. It generally takes about 2 hours to cycle around the park. Alternatively, you can take an electric cart or a small train for a more time- and effort-saving tour. Upon entering the park through Gate 1, most of the entertainment facilities and experience projects are concentrated on the right side, including paintball shooting, archery, horse riding, go-karting, and grass sliding, as well as water entertainment like pedal boats and water walking balls.
Inside the park, there are also nurseries such as the osmanthus garden, plum garden, cherry blossom garden, bamboo garden, and maple garden, offering different flowers and plants to appreciate in each season. Especially in late autumn, the clusters and patches of bright red sequoia forests are very eye-catching. The abandoned J-6 fighter plane hidden in the sequoia forest exudes the heroism of yesteryears, with its silver body accompanied by the swaying sequoia trees, presenting a stunning combination of strength and tenderness.
On the west side of the park, there is a sika deer field with both free-roaming and penned deer, where children can feed the deer by hand, which is very interesting. Additionally, deep in the park, there are barbecue areas and camping bases. Barbecues in the forest are quite rustic; you can bring your own ingredients or purchase them at the barbecue area. The park provides the rental of grills and other items, but try to avoid holidays when the barbecue area is very crowded. You can also bring a tent to rest on the large lawn, or even spend the night in the camping area to experience life in the wild; the park also rents out tents and sleeping bags.
Dongping National Forest Park [Flower Expo South Garden] is a must-visit in spring for its scenery and flowers. The first thing to see in Chongming is the February orchid in Dongping National Forest Park. As soon as the spring breeze blows, these humble and selfless flowers bloom into a vast blue-purple ocean, which is very spectacular! Cherry blossoms are the sprites of spring.
