Dongrong Garden, located on Dongguan Street in Yangzhou, is now a municipal cultural relics protection unit of the city. After renovation, the garden’s gate tower stands tall on Dongguan Street, with a city interpretation sign hanging beside the main entrance. The buildings within Dongrong Garden are distributed along three axes, arranged longitudinally from east to west, namely the East Axis, Central Axis, and West Axis. The architectural structures face north and south, with a hall built along the street, followed by a courtyard, and then the residential quarters to the north. The East and Central Axes have a total of five sections each, while the West Axis residential area is divided into two sections. The East Axis, spanning three rooms wide, includes from south to north, the front hall, reception hall, main hall, second hall, and residential quarters. The Central Axis, starting from the hall, includes the reception hall, main hall, front residence, and central residence, all three rooms wide, with the rear residence spanning five rooms, a side hall to the east, and a flower hall to the west. The West Axis, also three rooms wide, includes the front and rear residences. The Dongrong Garden complex is large in scale and well-arranged. The brick and wood structures feature carved beams in the main hall’s wooden framework, with fewer materials used in the main house’s wooden framework. The doors and windows are finely crafted and exquisite, and the brick carvings on the gate tower are beautifully executed, making the garden’s gate tower’s solemnity, the spaciousness of the halls, and the exquisiteness of the partitions truly admirable. The garden is open all year round from 09:00 to 21:45, and the exterior is accessible all day long.
