Dongsha Town is located at the northwest end of Daishan Island, bordered by the Daiqu Yang to the north, adjacent to Daidong Town to the east, and bordering Gaoting and Daixi towns to the south. The large bay is encircled from west to east by Xisha Jiao, Nianmu Ao, and Shahe Kou, forming a semi-circle at Shanzhu Tou Jiao Jiao. The town area is situated at the eastern corner of the large bay, historically known as ‘Dongsha Jiao’, from which the town derives its name.
Within its territory, there are islands such as Dongken Mountain, Dazhaizi Mountain, and Xiaozhaizi Mountain. The total area is 23.46 square kilometers. The terrain is higher in the south and lower in the north, with a climate that is warm in winter and cool in summer. The town governs four new-type communities: Dongsha, Qiaotou, Nishu, and Sigi, as well as a professional fishing economic cooperative. At the end of 2005, there were 8,921 households with a total population of 19,313, of which 6,361 were non-agricultural population. The town government is located in Gongmen, 9 kilometers away from the county town.
