Dongsha Town is located at the northwest end of Daishan Island, bordered by the Daiqu Yang to the north, neighboring Daidong Town to the east, and adjacent to Gaoting and Daixi towns to the south. The large bay is encircled from west to east by Xisha Jiao, Nianmu Ao, and Shahe Kou, forming a semicircle at the Shanzhu Head Peninsula. The town area is situated at the eastern corner of the bay, historically known as ‘Dongsha Jiao’, from which the town derives its name. Within its territory, there are islands such as Dongken Mountain, Dazhaizi Mountain, and Xiaozhaizi Mountain. The total area is 23.46 square kilometers, with a topography that is higher in the south and lower in the north, enjoying a warm winter and cool summer climate. The town governs four new-type communities—Dongsha, Qiaotou, Nizhi, and Sigi—as well as a professional economic cooperative for the fishing industry. By the end of 2005, there were 8,921 households with a total population of 19,313 residents, of which 6,361 were non-agricultural household registrations. The town government is located in Gongmen, 9 kilometers away from the county town. Opening hours are from 08:30 to 16:30 all year round.
