The Carved Building is renowned for its exquisite wood carvings and ingenious structure. Its magnificent carvings and the luxurious layout of ancient residential halls have made it a filming location for hundreds of TV dramas.
The surrounding environment of the Carved Building is beautifully landscaped with lush trees, verdant grass, lakes, rocks, pavilions, and small bridges. The building is surrounded by high and steep walls coated with black asphalt, giving it the appearance of a black castle from afar.
The building, once a private residence of a wealthy merchant in Dongshan, was constructed in 1922 and took three years to complete. The ‘Spring in the Building’ is a multi-sided courtyard structure. The entire building is primarily adorned with gold, stone, brick, wood, and carvings. The carvings are delicate and unparalleled, with ‘no place without carving, no place without engraving,’ making it one of the buildings worth visiting in the entire residence.
