Dongshan Scenic Area (Suzhou) – Mingshan Hall

Located in Yangwan Shangwan Village, Dongshan, this Ming Dynasty residential complex is renowned for its ‘three treasures’: brick carving gate towers, hall couplets, and stone-carved wall gates. The stone-carved wall gate is adorned with five auspicious and festive patterns highly praised by the famous Chinese art master Liu Haisu, including ‘Double Happiness’, ‘Joy Above the Eaves’, ‘Heavenly Auspiciousness and Earthly Spirit’, ‘Universal Joy’, and ‘Rejoicing in Heaven and on Earth’.

There are also a four-hundred-year-old wintersweet and a three-hundred-year-old camellia, both still blooming and withering silently, witnessing the vicissitudes of human life.
