Dongtan Wetland Park is located at the eastern end of Chongming Island, at the estuary of the Yangtze River. The air is fresh, and the endless reeds cover the tidal flats, making a walk on the wooden plank road an enjoyment of being close to nature.
Dongtan is a prime spot for watching the sunrise, and during the autumn and winter seasons when migratory birds pass through, one can stand on the bird-watching platform within the park to observe the birds flying or resting from a distance, offering a vivid and natural pleasure.
Dongtan Wetland Park is a necessary passage for migratory birds in the Asia-Pacific region and also a wintering place for waterfowl. A heron-watching platform is built in the center of the park, facilitating the observation of birds from an elevated position.
Upon entering Dongtan Wetland Park, visitors pass through several major areas such as the wetland landscape area, wetland habitat restoration area, waterfowl habitat, and rainwater collection area, where they can see vast reed beds and wetland lakes. In spring and summer, various flowering plants can be seen among the grass, but migratory birds are hard to spot.
Within the park, visitors can explore on foot, take an electric cart, rent a bicycle, or take a boat ride from the visitor center to the depths of the park. The wetland habitat restoration area and waterfowl habitat offer hand-rowing boat activities, and there are also activities such as barbecues, camping, and fishing.
