Dongzha is the primary filming location for the TV drama ‘Like Flowing Years’. The quaint residential buildings stretch along the riverbank, still inhabited by many locals, giving it a more vibrant atmosphere than its counterpart, Xizha. Visit the former residence of Mao Dun, Xiuzhen Temple, and other famous attractions, and take a ride on a traditional Wupeng boat to experience the serene life of the water towns.
Stroll along the banks of the Dongshi River to reach the main attractions within the Dongzha scenic area, which include fixed venues such as Mao Dun’s former residence, Lizhi Academy, Wood Carving Museum, and Coin Museum. During the day, don’t miss the folk performances in Dongzha: the martial arts boat in the commercial area, the high-pole boat at Caishen Bay, the Flower Drum Opera performed on the ancient stage, and the shadow puppet show at the Hanlin Residence, all of which vividly portray the traditional folk customs of Wuzhen. Due to safety considerations, overnight accommodations are not allowed within the Dongzha scenic area, but there are some locally-run guesthouses within the area. Although their facilities are not as good as those in Xizha, they are relatively cheaper and offer a more authentic ‘water town’ experience. Operating hours are from 07:00 to 17:30 all year round; from 07:00 to 18:00 all year round. Mao Dun’s former residence operates from 08:00 to 17:30 during summer and from 08:00 to 17:00 during winter.Warm reminder: Mao Dun’s former residence is currently under maintenance and not open to the public.
