When scholars went upstairs, the servants sat and waited on the benches on both sides of the corridor.
At the end of the Qing Dynasty, the imperial examination was abolished, and Wenchang Pavilion became a place for townspeople to play. At the same time, due to its central position created over a long period of time, it is also the news dissemination center for townspeople. As a part of Mao Dun Memorial Hall, after Lizhi Academy is restored as it is, Wenchang Pavilion also reappears with its cornices facing the waves. Open all year round and open all day.
