Doushatian Scenic Area of Kuaiji Mountain is located in Lingxia Village, Hutang Street, southwest of Keqiao District, Shaoxing. The scenic area covers an area of 4.3 square kilometers, bounded by Xianglin Village to the east, Lingxia Village to the south, Lianzen Village to the west, and Yanshang Reservoir to the north.
This place is known for its lush mountains and clear waters, beautiful scenery, warm winters and cool summers, and fragrances that linger through all seasons. The ancient osmanthus forest, which spans for miles, is a spectacular sight; the ancient temple clusters hidden in the Baolin Mountains, with their lingering Buddhist chants and the sound of morning bells and evening drums. Historically, many celebrities and scholars have visited this place, leaving behind numerous poems, such as Tang Dynasty poet He Zhizhang, Southern Song Dynasty poet Lu You, Ming Dynasty scholar Zhang Dai, and modern Buddhist Nan Huaijin, among others. The scenic area, with its unique thousand-year-old osmanthus forest and natural landscapes, has become an ecological tourism destination integrating religion, folklore, leisure, and vacation. The area is divided from bottom to top into three realms: Da Xianglin, Longhua Temple, and Dousha Tiangong. The first realm, Da Xianglin, offers cherry blossoms in spring, sunflowers in summer, osmanthus in autumn, and plum blossoms in winter, with continuous fragrances and refreshing air. The most prominent feature is the famous thousand-year-old osmanthus forest, which spans for miles, remains evergreen, and spreads its fragrance far and wide. The second realm, Longhua Temple, is built against the mountain, with layers upon layers of carved beams and painted rafters, exuding a grand presence. The江南民居风楼阁群, with its white walls and black tiles, perfectly complements the red-walled and glazed-tile Buddhist halls, offering a scene at every step, each more beautiful than the last, showcasing the architectural model of Buddhist temples in the 21st century. The third realm, Dousha Tiangong, is separated from Longhua Temple by a body of water and is planned according to the Maitrea Sutra, consisting of seven treasure walls, Dousha Tian宫内院, and the Purple Gold Lotus. The seven treasure walls are adorned with carvings of celestial beings, arhats, bodhisattvas, and Buddha statues, stretching over 4000 meters, a work of extraordinary craftsmanship. Dousha Tian宫内院 houses an indoor sitting Buddha – the 33-meter-high Maitrea Tian Guan Maitrea statue, which is truly awe-inspiring. The Purple Gold Lotus on top of the palace has a diameter of 56.7 meters. On the lotus, the formless great Buddha is enshrined, with the belief that the heart of the worshipper is as big as the Buddha, echoing the meaning of the Diamond Sutra that “one cannot attain the Tathagata by means of the body”. At night, Dousha Tiangong is ethereal and dreamlike, with colorful changing lights that make one feel as if they are in a heavenly palace, recreating the enchanting scene from the Buddhist scriptures of “infinite rays of light on the lotus”.
