Duojing Tower

Duojing Tower, also known as Beigu Tower, is located behind Ganlu Temple on Beigu Mountain. It was built in the Tang Dynasty. The tower’s name is taken from the phrase ‘many scenes hanging from the windows’ in ‘Linjiang Pavilion’ by Li Deyu, the prime minister of Tang Wenzong. Duojing Tower is a two-story building with corridors connecting each other. It is a great place for viewing scenery on Beigu Mountain. Standing on the tower, one can see the magnificent Yangtze River at the foot. To the west, Jinshan Mountain can be seen. To the east, Jiaoshan Mountain can be seen. Scholars, refined scholars, and high-ranking officials of all dynasties often come here to drink tea, enjoy the scenery and compose poems. Lu You, a patriotic poet of the Southern Song Dynasty, stood on Duojing Tower, reflecting on the past and present, and his emotions were hard to calm: ‘Looking down at the great river, the plants and trees in Huainan can be counted. The beauty of climbing and viewing is indeed better than before.’ According to legend, when Liu Bei came to Eastern Wu to seek a marriage alliance, Wu Guotai once had a blind date here. Therefore, this tower is also called Xiangxu Tower. Sun Quan’s younger sister Sun Shangxiang once dressed up here before getting married, so it is also called Dressing Tower.
