Rooted in Dunhuang culture, the museum engages in academic research, exhibition, collection, publication, education, digital transformation, and public projects related to contemporary art, showcasing the rich and diverse world of human art and thought. It strives to explore the historical logic of modern Chinese art and the contemporary translation of traditional culture within the knowledge context that connects the classical and the modern. With an open perspective, the museum aims to establish an international platform for art practice and theoretical research based in China. Dunhuang is not a static concept but a dynamically evolving process. It encapsulates various aspects of human life, including culture, art, politics, history, customs, beliefs, nature, and different civilizations, acting as a mirror reflecting the world of life. The museum uses Dunhuang as a metaphor and its cultural and artistic heritage as a foundation, hoping to create a visual field for dialogue between art and contemporary life while inheriting the oriental essence of Chinese culture. Relying on local resources and residency projects in Dunhuang, the museum also aims to become a gateway connecting Dunhuang’s on-site experiences with urban art spaces, breaking down barriers between regions, eras, and knowledge, and forming a联动 art practice and research platform between Shanghai, Dunhuang, and the global art community. Opening times are from November 11th to February 2nd, Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00-18:00; February 4th to May 4th, Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00-18:00; May 6th to May 31st, Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00-18:00; February 3rd, 10:00-18:00; May 5th, 10:00-18:00.
