The East Garden is located on Baita East Road in the northeast of the ancient city. The garden is long and narrow from north to south in a strip shape. It extends to Loumen in the north. In the south, it is adjacent to Ou Garden across the river. It borders the outer moat in the east and Cang Street in the west. Covering an area of 270 mu, including 90 mu of water surface and a building area of 1,400 square meters. The East Garden was originally called Chengdong Park. It is the first new comprehensive park built after the liberation of Suzhou. The large lawn of the East Garden is as green as a carpet, and there are cedar trees all around like a forest. The Hanbi Tower and the pavilions of Spring and Autumn Coolness on the east side are by the water and have a simple and elegant style. The surrounding corridors, rockeries, ponds, and flowers and trees form a peaceful courtyard. Inside the towering white walls and black tiles on the west side is the actual sample of ‘Mingxuan’, a classical Chinese garden exported to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, USA. It has become a bond of friendship between the Chinese and American people.
