Emerald Valley is located 8 kilometers northeast of Tangkou Town in Huangshan City, close to the south entrance of the Huangshan Scenic Area. Streams accompany the gorge, forming dozens of pools with colors resembling emeralds and a series of waterfalls. Willowing bamboo forests flank the streams, making Emerald Valley an excellent choice for those visiting Huangshan to appreciate water. In 1986, 36 young men and women from Shanghai visited the not-yet-fully-developed Emerald Valley and were stranded for three days.
Through adversity, they found true love, and eventually, 10 couples became lifelong partners. Hence, Emerald Valley is also known as Lover’s Valley. The movie ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ filmed scenes here. The valley runs from north to south, with the entrance at the southern end. Walking north into the gorge, the gradient is so gentle that one hardly feels like they are climbing uphill, making the entire tour quite relaxed. Each pool displays a variety of colors such as light yellow, light green, dark green, and lake blue, all clear to the bottom. On sunny days, the colors refracted by sunlight are even more beautiful. Summer rain is also a good time to visit, as the water volume increases, and even the paths are thinly covered with small streams, making the walk in the gorge feel cool. From the entrance, you pass Qingshi Pool, Ha蚌 Beach with layered rock patterns, Longfeng Pool, and the fourth pool is Huajing Pool, where the love scenes from ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ were filmed. The suspension bridge above Huajing Pool, Lover’s Bridge, is adorned with locks of love. The Green Pearl Pool behind Huajing Pool is also a filming location for ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,’ where scenes like searching for a sword in the deep pool were shot. Continuing on to the Magpie Bridge, there are sometimes tightrope performances during holidays. At ‘Love Stone,’ a flat rock bears a large red ‘Love’ character, where couples can take photos. A little further from ‘Love Stone,’ between two large rocks against an inconspicuous rock wall, is the ‘Alchemical Platform,’ said to bring love luck when touched. Along the way, you can also find 99 stone tablets with different fonts of the character ‘Love.’ There is an Emerald Valley Love Post Office at the entrance of the scenic area, selling love-themed postcards, love passports, etc., with free love commemorative postmarks, allowing you to send postcards to your loved ones. Next to the ticket office at the scenic area entrance, there is a shopping mall, and a convenience store at the ticket check, where you can buy food and drinks. There are not many convenience stores inside the scenic area, but since the tour of Emerald Valley does not take long, it is not necessary to prepare snacks. Generally, visitors add an extra half-day to their Huangshan Scenic Area itinerary, often visiting Emerald Valley. Especially for visitors from nearby areas like Shanghai, a classic three-day Huangshan tour usually has an extra half-day, often going to Emerald Valley in the afternoon of the first day or the morning of the third day. If the schedule is tight, it can also be visited after descending from Huangshan on the second day, with the third day reserved for other scenic spots. It is still recommended to visit Feicui Valley first and then Mount Huangshan. After coming down from Mount Huangshan, your legs will be sore and aching. If you go to Feicui Valley later, your enthusiasm for playing will be greatly reduced. Outside the gate of Feicui Valley, there is Feicui Renjia (Feicui New Village), which is composed of small villas available for accommodation and is suitable for self-driving tourists.
Self-driving tourists can also stay in Huangshan City. In this way, they can visit Tunxi Old Street at night. For non-self-driving tourists who want to have more abundant time to play on Mount Huangshan the next day, it is recommended to stay in Tangkou Town. Because there are no direct shuttle buses from Feicui Valley and Huangshan urban area to Mount Huangshan Scenic Area. They must take the new national line at the transfer center of Mount Huangshan Scenic Area in Tangkou. Opening hours: Open all year round from 06:30 to 18:30; Open all year round from 07:30 to 18:00.
