Erlang Shen Cultural Relics Park

Erlang Shen Cultural Relics Park is located 4-5 kilometers north of Guannan County, at the estuary of the Guanhe River where five rivers converge. It is said that Erlang Shen, a character from the classic Chinese novel ‘Journey to the West,’ once guarded Guanjiang (now Guanhe) and fought a great battle with Sun Wukong at the river’s mouth. The park is named after Erlang Shen, featuring a temple dedicated to him where visitors can burn incense and pray. The park boasts excellent greenery and beautiful water features, making it an ideal place for a leisurely stroll.

The main entrance of the park is on the eastern side of County Road 207. After entering, one first encounters the Erlang Shen Temple. The layout follows a central axis from south to north, including a memorial arch, mountain gate, drum and bell towers on either side, a dedication hall, a stage, the True Lord Hall, and a sleeping hall, where the True Lord Hall enshrines Erlang Shen. To the west of the True Lord Hall, there is a series of buildings aligned from north to south: the Reunion Palace, Wenchang Hall, God of Wealth Hall, and Sanyuan Palace, which are places to pray for prosperity, longevity, and well-being.

Continuing west from the Reunion Palace, one arrives at the tallest structure in the park, the Cixiao Pavilion. Climbing to the top of the Cixiao Pavilion offers a commanding view of the confluence of the five rivers, a truly imposing sight. To the west of the Cixiao Pavilion is the Octagonal Platform, named after the story of ‘Erlang Slaying the Dragon in the Guanhe River as His Homeland.’ North of the Erlang Shen Temple, there is a large lake area, and the best spot to enjoy the water views is on the winding corridor to the north of the lake. Willows by the shore brush the water, and the lake reflects the green trees and red flowers, creating a refreshing breeze that invigorates the spirit.
