Nanshan Scenic Area, a collective term for Zhaoyin Mountain, Yellow Crane Mountain, Jia Mountain, Jiuhua Mountain, and others, consists of Zhaoyin Scenic Area, Bamboo Forest Scenic Area, Yellow Crane Forest Scenic Area, and Wen Yuan. The area features undulating hills, bamboo forests, and harmonious birds and flowers, making it a beautiful sight. Although Nanshan may not be as famous as Jinshan and Beigushan today, it has been a favored residence and tourist destination for countless literati and celebrities since the Southern and Northern Dynasties.
Its tranquility and elegance set it apart from the hustle and bustle of the former. The first anthology of poetry and prose in Chinese history, ‘Zhaoming Wenxuan’, and the first monograph on literary theory, ‘Wenxin Diaolong’, were both compiled here. Hundreds of literati, including Luo Binwang, Wang Changling, Su Dongpo, Emperor Kangxi, and Emperor Qianlong, have left their praises for Nanshan. Today, Zhenjiang is known as the ‘City Forest’, a compliment from Northern Song Dynasty painter Mi Fu after viewing Nanshan. Opening hours are from 07:30 to 17:30 all year round.Preferential policies: Children aged 6 (inclusive) or below 1.4 meters (inclusive) in height enter for free. Elderly aged 70 (inclusive) and above enter for free. Children/Elderly/Students aged 6 (exclusive) to 18 (inclusive), full-time undergraduate students and below with valid identification, and elderly aged 60 (inclusive) to 69 (inclusive) with valid identification receive half price. Disabled individuals with valid identification enter for free. Others with ‘People’s Republic of China Veterans’ Preference Certificate’ or ‘People’s Republic of China Martyrs, Fallen in Duty Soldiers, Deceased Soldiers’ Dependents Preference Certificate’ enter for free. Important tips: Nanshan Scenic Area is large with scattered attractions and inconvenient travel. Some attractions do not have unique viewing value, so it is enough to visit the area around Bamboo Forest Temple.
