Wanghai Tower, originally built during the Song Dynasty and reconstructed in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, leads the grandeur of the Jianghuai region and is known as the ‘First Tower of Jianghuai’. The current Wanghai Tower adheres to the architectural style of the Song Dynasty, with an exterior of three levels of circular corridors, and the main body color is a combination of chestnut shell and gray, exuding an antique elegance.
Compared to historical records, its specific form is taller and more magnificent, with smooth and beautiful lines, elegant and refined expression techniques, and maintains a harmonious and consistent style with the existing ancient architecture in Taizhou. To the west of the tower is the Wen Huitang, historically built by Tong Zijing of the Northern Song Dynasty. It lists the historical materials of Yan Shu, Fan Zhongyan, Fu Bi, Han Qi, and Lu Yijian, five prime ministers who served in Taizhou during the Northern Song Dynasty and later became chancellors, with a ‘Five Prime Ministers Tree’ planted in front of the hall; a bronze statue of Fan Zhongyan, made by Wu Weishan, the president of the Chinese Sculpture Institute, is erected. Together with the existing city ruins of Taizhou that are a thousand years old and the ancient canals of Song City within the scenic area, everything shows the glorious history of Taizhou, which was established in the Southern Tang Dynasty, flourished in the Northern Song Dynasty, and was a city where famous officials and famous cities were interdependent.
