The Foding Palace is located in Niushou Mountain Heritage Park, Jiangning District, Nanjing City. The Foding Palace is a deep pit building, 220 meters long, 160 meters wide, with an overall height of 89.3 meters. The single building area is about 136,000 square meters. The architecture of the Foding Palace is themed on worship. The interior space is divided into nine floors, three above ground and six underground. The underground floor is composed of two major spaces: the Relic Hall and the Relic Storage Palace. The architecture of the Foding Palace is themed on worship and is divided into two parts: the large and small domes, implying external worship and internal worship. The large dome is 120 meters long and shaped like the Buddha’s cassock. It echoes Niushou East Peak and covers the small dome of the underground palace, symbolizing the boundless blessing of the Buddha. The small dome as a whole is like the Buddha’s hair bun. A single one is in the shape of putting hands together, implying the worship of tens of millions of believers to the Buddha. The base of the small dome is in the shape of a lotus throne. The entire lotus throne is composed of 56 flying apsaras bodhi gates symbolizing the boundless wisdom of the Buddha and 56 Yunmen Ruyi pillars symbolizing good luck and happiness. Combined with the Mani pearl on the small dome, it forms a sacred image of ‘lotus holding treasures’. The Relic Storage Palace is located 44 meters underground. The central area of the storage palace belongs to a religious place called the Relic Storage Palace Hall. The Buddha’s parietal relic will be enshrined in the Relic Storage Palace Hall for a long time. The Relic Storage Palace is mainly in dark tones to create a solemn and mysterious atmosphere. The corridor is 66 meters long. According to the layout of the connotation of the six paramitas of worship, the six paramitas are six behaviors of Bodhisattvas, namely, discipline, giving, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom. Opening hours: Open all year round from 08:30 to 17:00.
