The former residence of Kong Shangren is located in Chen’an in the Taizhou Fengcheng River Peach Blossom Garden scenic area. It is also known as the Sutra Depository Chan Monastery. The original site was opposite the Wen Tianxiang Memorial Hall on Dongmen Street in Taizhou. The nunnery was a family nunnery for the Chen family who were devout Buddhists in the Ming Dynasty and was extremely prominent at that time. At that time, Kong Shangren disagreed with local officials and his power was sidelined. He was relegated to Chen’an and his life was extremely down and out. He even reached the point where it was difficult to sustain three meals a day. Against such a background, he lived in Chen’an and completed the famous传世 masterpiece ‘Peach Blossom Fan’.
