The former residence of Ma Yinchu is a residential building in the style of the late Qing Dynasty. It was built by Ma Yinchu’s father, Ma Disheng, during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. It was used for the residence of the Ma family and the apprentices of the “Ma Shuji” winery he founded. On May 24, 1882, Ma Yinchu was born here, and he spent his childhood and adolescence here. The former residence is located on the ancient small street in Pukou Town, Shengzhou: Celebrity Street. This traditional residential building in the south of the Yangtze River covers an area of 628 square meters and has a total of 40 rooms including wing rooms. It faces south and is adjacent to the street on the north. When the door is opened, it becomes a store. In old times, there were many floods in Pukou. The wine jars sold in the store were stored upstairs in the former residence. For this reason, a round log was added horizontally under the floorboards of the attic to bear the weight. Entering the gate, one can directly reach the three-entry building in the courtyard through a long passage. The three entries are built on a longitudinal axis. Each entry of the building has two floors. It has white walls, black tiles, wooden pillars, black bricks, and a hard mountain top. On the upper floors of the second and third entries, there are corridors around them that are connected. Commonly known as a走马楼. There are courtyards paved with pebbles between each entry, and there are wing rooms on both sides of the courtyards. Ma Yinchu was born downstairs in the fourth room of the second entry. Ma Yinchu’s later bedroom is located on the west side of the first floor. The existing furniture and supplies related to the former residence are arranged and displayed as they were originally. Opening hours: From January 1st to December 31st, 09:00 – 17:00.
