The former residence of the leader is located in ‘Jiaxiu Li’ on Maoming North Road. This is an old house in the architectural style of a shikumen. It is the place where the great leader lived during his ninth visit to work in Shanghai (February 1924). At the entrance of the alley stands an archway with the words ‘Jiaxiu Li’. The alley is paved with blue bricks. The leader’s poetry and inscription are inlaid on the blue brick wall. The residence displays the room where the leader and his wife Yang Kaihui lived and some precious materials. The former residence is a two-story brick-wood structure building. Today, the exhibition hall on the first floor is a themed exhibition room, presenting the leader’s work and life in Shanghai from February to the end of 1924. Another room is the room where the leader’s mother lived when she took care of Yang Kaihui nearby during her childbirth. There is a crib inside. On the second floor, there is an exhibition of picture materials on ‘Mao Zedong in Shanghai’. In addition, this is the only leader’s residence open to the public in Shanghai.
