Zhang Yunpeng (1900 – 1958) was a famous doctor in Zhenjiang in modern times. Born into a family of traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, he joined the Medical Improvement Association of the Central Institute of National Medicine in 1923. He authored works such as “Thirteen Chapters on Syndrome Differentiation of Epidemic Febrile Diseases”. The former residence was built during the Guangxu period. The main building has three bays in width. In the garden, there are moonstones, octagonal door piers, stone strips with two dragons playing with a pearl, stone tables, stone benches, rockeries, etc. Dozens of kinds of flowers and trees are planted, such as wisteria, Boston ivy, green bamboo, wintersweet, osmanthus, Chinese rose, boxwood, etc. In particular, a century-old fragrant citrus tree and an ancient well form an artistic conception of “Fragrance Flowing from the Orange Well”, and the landscape of a semi-pavilion and plantains called “Listening to Plantains Cottage” is extremely fascinating. This old house gives people a feeling of winding paths leading to secluded places, small and exquisite, elegant and implicit, and profound cultural connotations in terms of overall architectural style. In 2000, it was awarded the Outstanding Project Award for Cultural Heritage Protection in the Asia-Pacific Region by UNESCO. Opening hours: From January 1st to December 31st, open from 08:00 to 18:30.
