The people’s commune is a special product of a special historical period in modern China. In 1958, a vigorous people’s commune movement swept across the country. Under such circumstances, Fengwei Township at that time (now the rural part on the periphery of Fengjing Town) also established a people’s commune, named Rocket People’s Commune. In March of the following year, it was still renamed Fengwei People’s Commune.
It was not until January 1984 that, according to superior instructions, Fengwei People’s Commune was restored as the people’s government of Fengwei Township. For 26 years, a quarter of a century, this place has always been the office location of the people’s commune at that time. Behind the commune compound, there is also an air-raid shelter excavated in response to the call of ‘dig deep tunnels, store abundant grain, and not seek hegemony’. Inside, there are command rooms, conference rooms, ammunition depots… all the necessary facilities for war preparations. Opening hours: Open all year round from 08:00 to 16:30.
