Furong Xie is a square pavilion with a mountain-shaped roof, situated at the eastern part of the Humble Administrator’s Garden, to the north of the main hall Lanxuetang, at the far east end of the large lotus pond. The lotus pond is roughly rectangular, longer from east to west and narrower from north to south, providing an extensive waterscape view to the west of the pavilion, with lotus plants in the water.
The lotus is also known as Furong, hence the name of the pavilion. Furong Xie has become a distinctive feature of the eastern landscape, especially during summer nights when the bright moon is overhead, offering a delightful experience of moonlight, gentle breeze, moon shadows, and the fragrance of lotus flowers. The interior decoration of the pavilion is also exquisite. The pavilion’s west side, facing the water, is adorned with a carved circular light cover, while the east side features a floor-to-ceiling door, and the north and south sides are decorated with rustic window lattices, exuding the ancient elegance and scholarly atmosphere characteristic of Suzhou gardens. The pavilion is open all year round from 07:30 to 17:30, with specific business hours subject to the daily opening status.Furong Xie
