Fuzi Ridge Reservoir is a large valley reservoir in the Huai River Basin of China, located 17 kilometers south of Huoshan County in western Anhui Province, upstream of the Pi River. The Pi River originates from the Dabie Mountain area and is one of the main tributaries of the Huai River. The mountainous area receives abundant precipitation, and during summer and autumn, flash floods are not easily discharged, often leading to flooding. The mountain waters flow downstream to Zhengyangguan and enter the Huai River, posing a significant threat to the main stream of the Huai River. Construction began in January 1952 and was completed in October 1954. The reservoir’s river-blocking dam is 510 meters long and over 70 meters high, a concrete arch dam capable of withstanding strong earthquakes. The dam has 8 flood discharge gates and 2 irrigation gates; it also houses a hydroelectric power station with an installed capacity of 31,000 kilowatts, generating 93.5 million kilowatt-hours annually, primarily supplying power to cities such as Lu’an and Hefei. The reservoir’s catchment area is approximately 1,840 square kilometers, capable of storing 500 million cubic meters of floodwater. The opening hours are from 08:00 to 17:30 all year round.
