Fuzi Ridge Scenic Area

Fuzi Ridge Reservoir is a large valley reservoir in the Huai River basin of China, located 17 kilometers south of Huoshan County in western Anhui Province, on the upper reaches of the Pi River. The Pi River originates from the Dabie Mountain area and is one of the main tributaries of the Huai River. The mountainous region receives abundant rainfall, and during summer and autumn, flash floods are difficult to discharge, often leading to flooding. The water rushes downstream to Zhengyangguan and enters the Huai River, posing a significant threat to the main stream of the Huai River. Construction began in January 1952 and was completed in October 1954.

The reservoir’s river-blocking dam is 510 meters long and over 70 meters high, a concrete arch dam capable of withstanding strong earthquakes. The dam features 8 flood discharge gates and 2 irrigation gates; it also houses a hydropower station with an installed capacity of 31,000 kilowatts, generating 93.5 million kWh annually, primarily supplying electricity to cities such as Lu’an and Hefei.

The reservoir’s catchment area covers approximately 1,840 square kilometers and can store 500 million cubic meters of floodwater. It is open to visitors all year round from 08:00 to 17:30.
