The museum showcases the history of ancient Chinese postal stations, representing the civilization of ancient Chinese post houses. The main body, Yucheng Post Station, is a national key cultural relics protection unit and a National AAAA-level scenic spot.
Yucheng Post Station was established in the eighth year of the Hongwu era during the Ming Dynasty (1375), which was used for storing food, water, and other supplies in ancient times. Yucheng, an alias for Gaoyou, is derived from the poem by Song Dynasty poet Qin Shaoyou describing his hometown as ‘like an inverted bowl’. Located in the South City Post Alley, Yucheng Post Station was an important post station on the north-south artery (Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal) during the Ming Dynasty, equipped with both horses and carriages. The original scale was grand, and the existing structures include halls, storerooms, corridors, a horse god temple, and a front drum tower. Although they have experienced the ravages of time, the ancient style is still preserved. Many experts are open to visiting, with opening hours from 9:00 to 17:00 all year round.Gaoyou City Post Station Museum
