Xuzhou is located downstream of the Yi, Shu, and Si rivers, between the Yellow River and Huai River basins. Historically, the Yellow River has brought countless disasters to the people along its banks, and the people of Xuzhou have suffered greatly from water-related calamities. In 1875 AD, the Yellow River changed its course, leaving behind an old channel in Xuzhou. The Gu Huanghe Park is a green belt converted from the basis of the old channel. The park runs through the ancient city, crossing nine bridges including Qingyun, Jizhong, and Heping, and seven main roads in the city area such as Zhongshan, Huaihai, and Jianguo. It contains 166 flower beds, 90,225 trees and shrubs, and over 50 types of tree species. The park, encircling the city with clear waters, has become an important scenic and tourist belt in Xuzhou. The park is open all year round from 8:00 to 18:00.
