Guangji Temple is located at the southern foot of Zheshan Mountain. It was first built during the Qianning period of the Tang Dynasty (894 – 898 AD). According to legend, Jin Qiaojue, the incarnation of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, preached here first before settling in Jiuhua Mountain. Therefore, Guangji Temple has the reputation of ‘Little Jiuhua’. What is particularly special in the temple is the Ksitigarbha Hall built in imitation of the真身宝殿 of Jiuhua Mountain, which is majestic. The halls of Guangji Temple are built along the mountain. From bottom to top, there are Yaoshi Hall, Mahavira Hall, Ksitigarbha Hall, and Guangji Temple Pagoda. There are a total of 88 steps. The experience of climbing the mountain and worshipping Buddha makes people feel as if they are in Jiuhua Mountain. The temple enshrines Maitreya, Wei Tuo, and the two generals Heng and Ha. In the middle of Yaoshi Hall, there is the Medicine Buddha enshrined. In the middle of Mahavira Hall, there are three large Buddhas enshrined, with accompanying statues on both sides. In front of the main hall, Ksitigarbha Hall, there is an ancient ginkgo tree from the Song Dynasty. In the middle of the hall, there is a statue of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva as high as 12 meters. On the west side of Ksitigarbha Hall, there is a two-story attic, Dicuixuan. It is said to be the place where Huang Tingjian, a calligrapher of the Song Dynasty, lived in seclusion and read. There are many inscriptions embedded in the wall downstairs. Behind Ksitigarbha Hall, the Guangji Temple Pagoda (Zheta Pagoda) is an ancient site of the Song Dynasty. ‘Zheta Qinglan’ is a major scenic spot in Wuhu. Opening hours: Open all year round from 06:30 to 17:00.
