Guanshan Scenic Area

Yi County is renowned for its many mountains, among which one is particularly esteemed as a fairy mountain, known as Guanshan. Historically, Zhang Liang and Xu Shu are said to have cultivated and ascended to immortality here. The Guanshan Scenic Area is located 6 kilometers northeast of Linshu County in Shandong Province, developed by Shandong Pangu Tourism Development Co., Ltd. in 2009 with an investment of 150 million yuan. It covers an area of 5 square kilometers and integrates Taoist health preservation, ecological tourism, leisure and wellness, business conferences, and dining and entertainment into a comprehensive tourism area. The scenic area boasts beautiful natural scenery and a rich historical and cultural heritage, encapsulated by the phrase “beautiful mountains, clear springs, ancient trees, numerous celebrities, and beautiful stories.” Within the scenic area, Guanshan and Yanwu mountains are connected, standing tall and elegant; the Sun and Moon lakes complement each other in the north and south; 36 springs are crystal clear, flowing for thousands of years; an ancient ginkgo tree, witnessing two thousand years of history, stands 21 meters tall with a trunk circumference of 7.7 meters, its branches sprawling and lush, so vast that five people cannot encircle it, forming a unique spectacle known as “five generations under one roof, embracing children in arms,” exuding a distinct spirituality. Next to the ginkgo tree stands the Sanqing Pavilion, originally built in 510 BC, now only a ruin due to historical reasons. Behind the ruins, a new Sanqing Hall has been constructed, housing statues of the Supreme Deity of the Tao, the Jade Pure Originator, and the Supreme Lord of the Numinous Treasure. Beside the Sanqing Hall lies a natural boulder, nearly fifty meters long, inscribed with the Five Thousand Words of the Tao Te Ching, a truly spectacular sight. Emperor Kangxi, during his southern tour, personally inscribed the “Record of the Renovation of Changchun Temple,” praising the area as having many famous mountains. The scenic area is perennially covered with chestnut trees, green bamboo, and evergreen pine and cypress, with a rich variety of precious tree species, including northern species such as willow, water willow, white wax, ligustrum, and Chinese pagoda tree, as well as economic species like chestnut, walnut, mountain apricot, peach, nectarine, pear, hawthorn, and pomegranate, and southern ornamental species like the Chinese tallow tree and small-leaf elm. The area has an extremely high content of negative oxygen ions, earning it the nickname “Little Jiangnan.”
