Gucun Park is located north of the Outer Ring Road S20 in Baoshan District. It is a relatively large park in the northern suburbs of Shanghai. The park is lush with flowers and trees and is a popular outing place for locals. Usually, there are not too many visitors in the park. On sunny days, one can often see families of three bringing children for picnics and sunbathing. The park has a cherry blossom planting area of more than 1,400 mu, with 110 cherry blossom varieties and more than 14,000 cherry blossom trees.


They bloom successively from March to April every year. Through years of continuous construction, the cherry blossom landscape in the park has gradually formed the characteristic of different sceneries with every step. The cherry blossom avenue running through east and west connects cherry blossom viewing spots such as plum and cherry forest, cherry blossom forest, cherry blossom garden, weeping cherry forest, fortune cherry forest, cherry blossom square, friendship forest, spring welcoming forest, early cherry blossom forest, and cherry blossom variety garden.


In addition, there are new landscapes with rich characteristics of traditional Chinese culture such as Songyue forest, Lanlan square and Sunshine forest. Early and medium cherry blossom varieties such as Feihan cherry and彼岸类 cherry blossom varieties bloom first in spring, and the full-bloom period is like clouds and rosy clouds. After the full-bloom period of Han cherry, early cherry blossom varieties bloom immediately, with seamless connection in time.


With the arrival of Han cherry, all varieties of cherry blossoms will bloom one after another. Early cherry blossom varieties such as Kawazu cherry, Taiyo cherry, and Taiwan cherry will also enter the full-bloom period at the end of February and early March. Hundreds of Sunshine cherry trees have also entered the initial blooming state and are swaying gracefully in Sunshine forest. The medium cherry Somei Yoshino cherry has also begun to bud under the moisture of spring rain, waiting for the right time.


It is expected to be in full bloom in mid-to-late March. The lotus in Gucun Park is naturally planted in multiple water areas in the park, covering an area of more than 300 mu. There are a total of 28 varieties such as Qingling Honglian, Friendship Peony Lotus, Fujian Honglian, Baijian Lotus, and Jianwu. Generally, it begins to bloom in mid-June. As the temperature continues to rise, it begins to bloom at the end of June every year.


It enters the full-bloom period in mid-to-late July. The blooming period of lotus lasts for more than one month, and some varieties can last until September. Enjoying osmanthus in autumn is a traditional tourism project for enjoying flowers in four seasons in Gucun Park. When autumn comes, the park is filled with the fragrance of osmanthus, and various colorful tree species are splendidly competing for beauty, attracting tourists from all over to come and smell the fragrance and appreciate the colors.


At present, more than 10,000 osmanthus trees of different sizes and shapes are planted within the park’s opening range. The main varieties are: Osmanthus fragrans var. thunbergii, Osmanthus fragrans var. latifolius, Osmanthus fragrans var. aurantiacus, and Osmanthus fragrans var. semperflorens, which are evenly scattered in various blocks of the park. The total area of the rose theme garden is about 534 mu, displaying 128 varieties.


The blooming period of roses is from the end of April to the end of December, with May and October being the full-bloom periods. The plum blossoms in Gucun Park are mainly distributed near Meiying forest to Mengxiong Bridge, Xiangjiaqiao, Oriental Bird World, and near the cherry blossom barbecue garden. Every year from the end of January to February, one by one red plums stand proudly on the branches with a delicate fragrance floating.


Pink petals are matched with light yellow stamens.


Gu Village Park is a spacious park offering various recreational activities. In addition to taking a leisurely walk along the lake, you can rent a bicycle for transportation. Besides, you can enjoy picnicking on the lawn, flying kites, riding electric boats, and having barbecues with friends. The park also features numerous amusement facilities and a dinosaur park (additional fee required).
