The Guimeng Scenic Area is located in the east of Pingyi County and the northwest of Linyi City. It is the main peak scenic area of Mengshan Mountain in the Yimeng Mountain Tourist Area. At the same time, it is also the location of the main monument of the Yimeng Mountain National Geopark. The scenic area is densely vegetated and the air is fresh. Here, you can climb to the second highest peak in Shandong, ‘Guimeng Peak’, and overlook the beautiful scenery of the mountains.
Or walk on the ‘Mengshan Cliff Plank Road’, the first plank road in northern Jiangsu, and experience the excitement of walking on the cliff. In the scenic area, you can also enjoy the large mountain carving – Mengshan God of Longevity. At the ‘Mengshan Wonderland’ archway at the foot of the mountain in the scenic area is the intersection of the three tourist routes to Guimeng Peak. Among them, the ancient climbing road on the west route has not been fully developed yet and cannot be walked for the time being. To the east from the archway is the vehicle road. You can take the scenic area shuttle bus to go up the mountain, which is relatively labor-saving. There are many landscapes along the way. Going straight from the archway is the hiking trail in the middle. It is mainly composed of stone steps. There are many scenic spots and beautiful scenery on the way. If you walk up and down the mountain on foot, it will take about 6-7 hours. You can also choose to walk up the mountain and then take the bus down the mountain, or take the bus up the mountain and walk down the mountain. It will take about 3-5 hours round trip. Walking up the mountain mainly passes through scenic spots such as Jiulongtan, Lovers’ Valley, Baishou Cliff Carvings, Yingwo Peak, Sage Pavilion, Qiyuqingxin Valley, Dongtianmen, cliff plank road, longevity carving, and Guimeng Peak. Jiulongtan has waterfalls and a huge dam. Here you can experience the exciting forest rafting. Lovers’ Valley is a mountain stream valley with a quiet environment. There are small scenic spots such as Shanmengtai, Yue Lao Temple, and Sansheng Stone. Yingwo Peak is a major landmark landscape of the Guimeng Scenic Area. The cliff of this mountain is as steep as a cut, and there are several peculiarly shaped pine trees growing on the peak. Looking at the entire mountain peak from a distance is like a huge bonsai, very beautiful. Continuing to ascend along the stone steps, you can reach the Sage Pavilion. This mountain pavilion is located on the edge of the cliff. There is a plaque hanging on the pavilion that says ‘Looking at Donglu’. Confucius once took a rest here when he climbed Mengshan Mountain. Not far from the Sage Pavilion is Dongtianmen. Dongtianmen is an archway. There is a couplet inscribed by Mi Fu, a famous painter and calligrapher in the Northern Song Dynasty, on it: ‘Looking west, Bixia enshrouds Mount Tai. Coming from the east, purple qi fills Mengshan.’ The horizontal plaque is ‘Clouds steaming and rosy clouds blooming’. This is the confluence of the east route and the middle route. The road continuing to go up from here will be more gentle. On the way, you can see a strange sight called ‘Turtles Probing the Sea’, which is a stack of huge rocks that look like a group of huge turtles probing their heads out and crawling outward. It is very vivid. After passing ‘Turtles Probing the Sea’, you can soon reach Guimeng Peak. Guimeng Peak is 1156 meters above sea level and is the second highest peak in Shandong after Mount Tai. When Confucius climbed here, the entire State of Lu was in full view. Mencius once said: ‘Confucius climbed Dongshan Mountain and looked down on Lu. Climbing Mount Tai, he looked down on the world.’ Among them, ‘Dongshan Mountain’ refers to Mengshan Mountain. The view from Guimeng Peak is wide. You can look around at the continuous mountains and the beautiful scenery is endless. Here is also a great place to enjoy the sunrise and watch the sea of clouds.Yimeng Mountain, known for its association with Taoism, features a temple dedicated to the Jade Emperor at its peak, making it a popular destination for prayers and blessings. Following this, one can take a plank road to the northwest side of the Gui Meng Summit, where the renowned ‘Meng Mountain Longevity Star’ rock carving can be seen from a distance. The entire mountain appears as a benevolent immortal with a staff in one hand and a peach in the other, symbolizing longevity.
After paying homage to the Longevity Star, return to the base of Gui Meng Summit and embark on the ‘Meng Mountain Plank Road’. This three-kilometer-long path consists of a cliff-side plank road and a forest wooden boardwalk. Walking on the cliff-side plank road offers a thrilling experience of walking close to the cliff, with a panoramic view of the valley below. This path leads directly to the summit parking lot, from where one can take a vehicle down the mountain.
