Gunxiu Lane was originally named ‘Gunxiu Fang’. It is a small alley along the river in the central-southern part of Suzhou city and one of the sixty-five ancient lanes in the Song Dynasty. Gunxiu Lane is an ancient lane in the Song Dynasty and was the former residence of Yuan Jiang, a famous official. There is a ‘Gunxiu’ memorial archway in the lane. Later, the character ‘Gun’ was mistakenly written as ‘Gun’ and has been passed down to this day.
