Guo Zhuang is located on Yanggong Causeway on the west bank of West Lake, close to Quyuanfenghe. It is a small Jiangnan garden. Guo Zhuang was built in 1907 and is named after the Guo family of Fenyang once lived here. Although Guo Zhuang is relatively small in scale, it has rockeries, ponds, pavilions and corridors. It cleverly borrows the scenery of West Lake and is an excellent place for tea tasting and enjoying the scenery by the lake. The garden is centered around a pond. Entering the garden, first is ‘Jingxinju’, which was once the place for the owner to live and receive guests. Then you can see the pond. The water is drawn from West Lake. There are curved corridors and rockeries surrounding the pond. There are also pavilions such as ‘Liangyixuan’, ‘Pleasing to the Eyes’ and ‘Jingsuge’. In autumn, the curved corridors are filled with chrysanthemums, and red and yellow fallen leaves are scattered all over the pond, which is quite artistic. Guo Zhuang faces Su Causeway. There are not many tourists here. Sitting on the platform facing West Lake, or chatting over tea, looking at the distant mountains and Leifeng Pagoda is very enjoyable. Every summer, you can also enjoy the blooming lotus by the lake. The lake breeze blows on your face, which is very cool.
