Guqing Temple shares a history that is nearly as old as the formation of the land in Rudong, Nantong. In the early Tang Dynasty, after a coastal embankment separated Rudong from the beach, Guqing Temple was built with the people’s longing for a peaceful and prosperous era.
Guqing Temple in Rudong was established during the Tang Dynasty’s Zongxian era. The monk who came to build it was named Xingman, who was the tenth patriarch of Guqing Temple on Tiantai Mountain. Therefore, the Guqing Temple in Rudong shares the same name and original structural style with the one on Tiantai Mountain. During the construction of the Buddhist temple, Xingman is quoted as saying, “If the temple is completed, the nation will be at peace.” However, this ancient temple, which has experienced the vicissitudes of history for a thousand years, has not been as tranquil and peaceful as Xingman had hoped. The temple is open all year round from 08:00 to 17:00, with specific business hours subject to the day’s opening status.Guqing Temple
