Located on the banks of the Qiantang River in YanGuan Town, Haining, the Haining YanGuan Tourism Resort can be broadly divided into two parts: the Ancient Town of YanGuan and the Tide-Viewing Park. Most visitors to YanGuan come for the majestic Qiantang Tide, which usually occurs in the afternoon, allowing for a leisurely stroll through the ancient town in the morning while waiting for the tide. Admission to the ancient town itself is free, but tickets are required to enter the courtyards.

For those wishing to view the tide at Tide-Viewing Park, individual park tickets can be purchased, or a combined ticket for the entire scenic area can be bought. Upon entering the scenic area from the Tourist Service Center and walking through the ChunXi Gate, most of the paid attractions included in the combined ticket are concentrated in this area, all within walking distance.

Apart from these attractions, the HaiShen Temple on ChunXi Road is also worth visiting. Numerous legends surround the temple, with the painted columns and the ancient stone lions at the entrance being particularly memorable. Nearby is the Jin Yong Academy, where the couplet ‘Flying Snow, Connecting Heaven and Earth; Smiling Books, Leaning on the Gallant Swan’ encapsulates the 15 works of Mr. Jin Yong. The academy, which Mr. Jin Yong himself participated in laying the foundation, reflects the chivalrous spirit in its architecture and exhibition. Visitors can appreciate martial arts murals in the corridors, discuss the martial world in the Sword Hall, read Jin Yong’s works in the library, and watch the changing skies from the Cloud Pavilion.

Another paid attraction, the former residence of Wang Guowei, is slightly farther from the other attractions and serves as a place for academic exploration. Built by Wang’s father, Wang Naiyu, when Wang was nine years old, the residence was initially named ‘Yu Lu’. Wang Guowei, known as the ‘Master of Chinese Studies,’ spent twelve years of his youth here and continued to return annually for short stays, referring to it as his ‘Western City Hut.’ The residence displays some materials about Wang Guowei’s life and is a bit difficult to locate.

Additionally, the Confucian Temple and Academy, covering an area of over 12,800 square meters, should not be missed. It can be divided into three parts: the forepart, the left academy, and the right temple. The forepart includes the screen wall, Pan Pond, Kuixing Pavilion, and the Filial Piety Temple; the left academy includes the Confucian School Gate, the Ritual Gate, the Minglun Hall, the Jingyi Pavilion, and the Zun Jing Pavilion; the right temple includes the Lingxing Gate, the Dacheng Gate, the Dacheng Hall, and the Chongsheng Temple.

This site is an important showcase of Confucian academia and ancient education, as well as a display of local Haining culture. Turning left at the intersection of Renmin Road and walking to the end leads to the Tide-Viewing Park, which features several tide-viewing spots, ancient structures like the Zhan’ao Tower and Tide-Viewing Platform, and various exhibitions. The custom of tide-watching at the Qiantang River has a history of over two thousand years, with the three famous viewing spots being Da Gap, YanGuan, and Old YanCang.

The Tide-Viewing Park is an excellent place to watch the ‘single line tide,’ where, on average, around the first and fifteenth days of the lunar month, the tide appears as a white water line rushing towards the embankment at an astonishing speed. As the white line rises, the tide resembles an unstoppable white wall, creating a majestic and spectacular sight.

Especially during the QiuShi Tide Viewing Festival on the eighteenth day of the eighth lunar month, the crowd of tide viewers rivals the tide itself. At this time, the park tickets and surrounding accommodations not only skyrocket in price but are also in extremely high demand. The specific times of the daily tides vary, so it is recommended to consult the scenic area beforehand or directly inquire with local vendors around the area. Dining options are available at the Qianlong Restaurant and Yuanlong Food Court within the scenic area. Operating hours are from 08:00 to 16:30 throughout the year.

Service facilities include parking lots: [Haining YanGuan Tourism Resort Parking Lot] with a reference price of free; located near the scenic area with a capacity of 1000 spaces.
